Hazrat Abul Hassan Amir Khusru Dehlvi Rehmatullah-alaihi

Hazrat Abul Hassan Amir Khusru Dehlvi Rehmatullah-alaihiHazrat Abul Hassan Amir Khusru Dehlvi was a renowned Durvesh (saint) whose father was Amir Saifuddeen Mahmud. Who was an influential and wealthy man from Balk (Turkey). They had migrated to Patiala Etta during the reign of Sultan Shamsuddeen Altamash. When he reached Delhi he became a close associate to Sultan Shamsuddeen Altamash and married the daughter of Imadul Mulk who was a learned scholar.

There were three children from the marriage elder Ijajuddeen, Hissamuddeen and Amir Khusro who was born in 653 Hijri (1255 AD). When he was 9 years of age his father Amir Saifuddeen Mahmud passed away fighting a battle. Up to 13 years of age he was in the care of his maternal grandfather Nawaab Imadul Mulk.

Hazrat Abul Hassan Amir Khusru was very fond of poetry and art and took interest in the subject from a very early age.

He was highly fascinated with the spirituality of Hazrat Nizamuddeen Auliya Mehboobe Ilahi Ra and approached him to become his guide and teacher.

Hazrat Abul Hassan Amir Khusru Dehlvi Rehmatullah-alaihiHazrat Nizamuddeen Auliya Mehboobe Ilahi Ra was delighted to have him as a disciple and commented “your saintly illumination will increase with my proximity.”

Hazrat Abul Hassan Amir Khusru was always very close to Hazrat Nizamuddeen Auliya Mehboobe Ilahi Ra and would be consulted by other Mureeds to approach Hazrat Nizamuddeen Auliya Mehboobe Ilahi Ra.

He wrote a “Kasida” in the praise of Hazrat Nizamuddeen Auliya Mehboobe Ilahi Ra. Who was overjoyed on listening to it and asked Hazrat Abul Hassan Amir Khusru Ra. to ask for anything he wanted to which Hazrat Abul Hassan Amir Khusru said he wanted his art to be sweet and have impact. Hazrat Nizamuddeen Auliya Mehboobe Ilahi Ra. asked Hazrat Abul Hassan Amir Khusru Ra. to eat from the sugar which was kept in a plate under his bed, After this his words became sweet and would make the listeners ecstatic.

Hazrat Abul Hassan Amir Khusru Dehlvi Rehmatullah-alaihi Once one Mureed asked Hazrat Nizamuddeen Auliya Mehboobe Ilahi Ra to give a look of grace as he would to Hazrat Abul Hassan Amir Khusru to which he replied you will have to be like him.

Once Sultan Allauddeen Khilji wanted to meet Hazrat Nizamuddeen Auliya Mehboobe Ilahi Ra as he was aware that Hazrat Nizamuddeen Auliya Mehboobe Ilahi Ra did not appreciate visits from kings. So he decided to come without informing however Hazrat Abul Hassan Amir Khusru was aware since he was associated to Sultan Allauddeen Khilji. He informed Hazrat Nizamuddeen Auliya Mehboobe Ilahi Ra about which made him leave to Pakpattan to visit Baba Fareed’s Mazaar. And avoided the king’s visit in this manner. When Sultan Allauddeen Khilji got to know about this he was annoyed with Hazrat Abul Hassan Amir Khusru to which he sent a reply “to annoy the ruling king would incur loss of life, however to annoy the peer would incur loss of Imaan.”

Sultan Allauddeen Khilji was satisfied with this answer.

Hazrat Abul Hassan Amir Khusru Dehlvi Rehmatullah-alaihi Hazrat Abul Hassan Amir Khusru would recite 7 chapters in Namaaz e Tahajud in the end of the month and would weep a lot. He would observe fast all around the year.

During the reign of Ghyasuddeen Tuglag 18 shawaal 725 Hijri 1324AD Hazrat Abul Hassan Amir Khusru took wafaat “Inna Lillahi va Inna Ilaihi Raajiuun”. And his Mazaar is at the feet of Hazrat Nizamuddeen Auliya Mehboobe Ilahi Ra.
